Question 1

Why doesn't my color land on 500?

Accepted Answer

The scale targets perceived brightness rather than HSL lightness. In exchange, the same step behaves identically across hues: 800 is readable with white text whether the hue is green or blue. Lightness-based scales don't hold that property.

Question 2

Are all generated shades accessible?

Accepted Answer

Generated shades from 600 up pass AA with white text, and 200 and below with black text. Your own color is preserved verbatim and therefore sits outside that guarantee — its real ratio is shown as-is.
