Question 1

How long should a description be?

Accepted Answer

Around 150–160 characters. Google won't always use it verbatim — it may pull a different passage based on the query — but a well-written one still lifts click-through.

Question 2

Does the keywords meta tag still matter?

Accepted Answer

Google hasn't used it for ranking in many years. It does no harm, but your time pays off far better on the title, description and the page content itself.
